You may think of maternity photos with flowy maxi dresses in fields, however if that is simply not “you” or you want to do something different, scheduling your session at home could be a great option. This is going to be give you an example of in-home maternity photos in Iowa City.

For this maternity session, we decided that we wanted to incorporate a few activities for the soon-to-be big sis to have fun with. Toddlers typically do not enjoy sitting and being told to pose (especially for a long period of time), so instead my approach is finding something that they will enjoy doing with parents (whether that’s an in home session or outdoors). I have found that this approach makes it easier for the kids + parents as well. Parents also like to have something to enjoy doing with their children. It felt more like a morning hanging out (and I just happened to have my camera out).

Tea Party (mom + daughter)

We broke out a cute little kid’s tea party set and mom + daughter had fun sipping “tea”, making toasts, and french pastries. We had some homemade chocolate chip muffins to enjoy at the end. Because obviously real snacks are always clutch.

Family Dance Party

This was the moment where we got to let all of sillies and energy out (also important). We had already captured a lot of the sweet, tender moments. Now enter, Disney’s Moana and Frozen, this little girls’ jams. Mom, dad, and big sis sang along to the lyrics and had fun dancing around the living room.
