In the grand scheme of things, family videography (the fancy term) aka films or videos of your family is a newer art form (and professional service). Of course, my fellow “xennials”/millenials (80’s babies) remember our family’s VHS tapes. But what if I told you, there’s a modern version of the family video? Family videos right here in Iowa!

There was something so special, something that felt so incredibly nostalgic about watching your memories on tape. You may have watched you and your siblings open christmas presents or playing in a kiddie pool out in your yard with you mom. I remember watching home videos and feeling a special bond and appreciation of my parents. I also squealed with how cute my sisters and I were.

Wedding videography started becoming more and more popular, and now more family photographers are deciding to take the art form over to the world of family life.

I know, I know. We all have a camera on us all the time (iPhone). But capturing a film of your family is an art form, just like when you hire a professional photographer. I am going to show you a recent “day in the life” session I did with a family in Iowa City to compare the photos and the film. I am guessing a lot of you didn’t even realize this service existed. Not only can you document your memories with photos, but also with family videos (in Iowa).

The mom of the family and I talked about what activities her and her family enjoyed doing on a Sunday morning and came up with a plan. Making a fort, baking and knitting together were the ideas we brainstormed.
